What can we say? We love angst! XD

Now Ariel I think would have a really hard time trying to come up with something. What do you get the boy who has everything? LOL So I can see her trying to make him something or write a special song for him. Maybe "kidnap" him for just a day of fun. You know; swimming, picnic, exploring, smooching, sunset. XD Erin doesn't get to have much time doing what he wants to do, so I think he'd value free time.

First let me go back to a few posts ago and say, Elphie, Eye of the Beholder is my FAVORITE Aladdin episode! I'm just really glad that someone else knows of it.

To answer the gift question, I devulge a part of my ever-threatened Christmas story. So in going through the castle's storage for decorations, Ariel, Eric, and Carlotta find Eric's old model ship that his father gave him. It had broken years ago and no one was ever able to fix it. Well, Ariel can't have that. Long story short, she gets it fixed and that's Eric's present.

I do think some free time would be a great gift too, Frida. He'd get a kick out of that. Maybe there's a nice little port town an hour's sail away from the kingdom and Ariel can take Eric there for a day so they get a little vacation and some time on a ship. Oh, the possibilities...

Okay, back in the day I loved the Aladdin epsiode "Sandswitch" where Sadira and Jasmine switch places. It was released on a Princess Collection tape with "Eye of the Beholder", which I of course had to have, so I am very familiar with that episode.

The gift...I like both the day off and the model ship idea. I could also see Ariel maybe arranging to get a rare beautiful seashell or something that Eric has been looking for for a long time.

I really loved the Aladdin show when it was on. Those were both great episodes. Hey does anyone know if Sadira and Mozerath ended up together? Or am I thinking of something else? XD

Can I just say that I LOVE how everyone expresses their different thoughts and opinions. That we don' get offended, or throw a fit, every time somebody has another point of view in our little thread

Cute idea, Aquisha! Do you have a link for the story? And IS there a snowball fight between Ariel and Eric in it? XD

-facepalm- Way to ruin Chapter 8, Frida!

I'm glad someone other than me believes it isn't perpetually summer in...wherever Eric lives. I thought my readers might get angry with me because I made it snow. But it snows in Italy, Denmark, France AND England. So there. XD

I love everyone's gift ideas. I could imagine Ariel, a couple months before Eric's birthday, hear him talking about an object he lost at sea long ago. If she recognized it as an item from her grotto, she could bring it back to him. That or some unique item from the sea, like a sculpted coral or something else mer-handmade.

Along with that, she'd definitely give Eric some free time. I think Eric might be apprehensive about it at first, but once he got far enough away from the kingdom, he'd appreciate some R&R. I can imagine Eric waking up at three in the morning to Ariel preparing ways to sneak out of the palace. XD

Um...that story has been tossed around in my head for like two years. It will get done, some time, that I can promise. I'll let you know...

And yes, Zavi, I always like to think that even though the kingdom is near the ocean that it can still get considerable snowfall, mostly because I just think that Ariel should be able to see snow!

And I LOVE Mozenrath! What makes me so sad is that they were going to make Mozenrath and Aladdin brothers in the third Aladdin movie, but the actor who voiced Mozenrath died before that could be done. Beyond unfortunate for numerous reasons. But long live those of us who loved Aladdin the animated series. Any fans of the Aladdin/Hercules crossover episode...?

I agree on the snow front. The landscape didn't scream tropical to me. I always assumed that they had seasons in Eric's Kingdom.

Mozenrath and Sadira never met in the series. But yes, they would have made an awesome couple...Once Moze was rehabilitated.

IIRC the higher ups decided it would be better to distance King of Thieves from the TV series which was why the plot was changed. Jonathan Brandis (Mozenrath's VA) didn't die until 2003, though he was of course still far too young.

"Hercules and the Arabian Knight"? I LOVE that episode. Actually the series in general, but that one in particular was hysterical.

You know, looking back, I'm pretty sure Moze was one of my many many inspirations for Daemon, at least subconsciously.

Count me as another fan of the Aladdin show. I so wish they'd put that one and TLM out on DVD. My siblings and I got out of the pool every afternoon in the summer to run inside and watch Aladdin and Spiderman. And of course half the time I was in the pool I was Ariel.

I've never given much thought to what sort of gifts they would give each other. I do think Ariel would want to give him something very unique and I love the idea of a rare shell. She would certainly know where to find one of those.

There would definitely be snow in Eric's kingdom! It's also HCA canon. One of the sisters was born in the winter and when she goes to the surface it's winter and she tells tales of giant icebergs and snow. I love putting in things from the original story whenever possible.

I have a feeling that Ariel would kick Eric's royal *ahem* in a snowball fight. She'd immediately go into Scary!tactics mode while he, poor fool that he is, would be trying to go easy on her...the first time anyway. After that he'd know better.

Good point! We all know she's already good at throwing things and has excellent hand-eye coordination.

I experienced snow falling from the sky for the first time when I was in New York last, and I'm still looking for just the right thing to translate my excitement into a character.

Definitely. They'd come back to the palace soaking wet, or at least Eric would. I can imagine constant re-matches over the winter, with hiding places scattered across the palace grounds. With all that red hair, Ariel'd better find a tall snowbank.

Oh, and for some reason I see Eric taking after his mom looks wise. In my head I pictured her to look like Jennifer Connely. Traits- I think he got a little of both, but the over comtemplating came from mom. Dad I invision as someone who was very confident in his choices and how to act on them. Granted he would have had the maturity and intelligence to do so. I see both parents being equally smart (I want to say the mom would be but I'm about the girl power XD) But Eric might not feel so confident in his own judgment, and what struck me as the whole kingdom wanting him to be a carbon copy.

As someone who's getting married in exactly 30 days, I've noticed that many men tend to fall for women who are similar, at least in some ways, to their mothers. My MIL-to-be is a *very* strong woman (and it's a good thing we're 3,000 miles apart). I am too.

I picture Eric's mother as very bubbly and easily thrilled over the seemingly small things. His father is very much a thinker, very contemplative and cares deeply about the things around him even though he may not always show it.

To me, Eric looks like his dad and his mom was more on the fair side. I've always pictured my Eric and Eric's dad as a very tall, dark and handsome Mediterranean man with a more olive skin tone.

I have a post-wedding story that I am once again actively working on that tells what happened to Eric's parents. Elphie knows all about it but I'm going to swear her to secrecy! I want ya'll to be surprised with where it goes.

Oh, guilt trip! I've been hacking away at the first chapter for the last week or so--I want to get that readable and then get back to revising the other fourteen. It's frustrating at times, but I want this thing polished and out the door!

The short, non-spoiler version: I agree that Eric gets his contemplativeness from his mama, along with his hair. I'd imagine physical traits came mostly from his father, especially concerning his face. A love of the ocean came from both parents, though in different ways for each.

Yes, for some reason my vison of Eric's Mom is very fair-skinned with black hair and large dark eyes. Personality wise I picture her as very warm but at the same time smart, fierce, and protective of what's hers. Think Piper from the latter seasons of Charmed.

As for his Dad, I see him as maybe being a little more low-key, but having a great sense of humor, and a kind of quiet strength. I think Eric maybe got his build and facial features. I could see his hair as maybe a dark brown.

Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind on all of this whenever a new idea pops into my head.

I'm sure Eric's dad was his main sailing mentor, which would have made it all the more difficult when he died.

-light bulb flashes- Though it would be extra interesting if his mother was the one who taught him how to sail. Sort of like a Captain Amelia, although that's not how I picture his mama.

I agree with everyone on Eric's physical traits. I do think he did get the whole sailing thing from his dad. I can also see his dad as being able to balance out his royal responsibilites and his love of the ocean. The sailors and the subjects of the kingdom would have liked him and thought he was such a great ruler. I could totally see Eric thinking he had big shoes to fill once his father died and having to cope with it for awhile( kinda like the Lion King ). Sailing would really be his only escape from the pressures of being a prince. And I'd imagine his dad felt the same way.

Good points, Melissa. Having big shoes to fill can definitely make one reluctant to fill them. What if he messed up, or wasn't as good at it and people said his father could never be proud of him. There's a whole new dimension to play with right there.

Ooh! I love that! I can see that he'd never really think he derserved his life position, so some of his hesitance was based on "Oh man, I wonder when someone's going to point out there's nothing special about me."

Exactly. I picture Eric as not having much of a sense of self-worth, with the exception of the few things he is confidant he is good at. Sailing etc. He is definitely not comfortable with his identity as a prince, and might sometimes feel that he, as a person, doesn't really have anything to offer.
