Amen to that. It isn't hyper-broadcasted in the move, but there is a huge contrast between Eric's character as a sailor and Eric as a prince. I think he'll settle into the latter role after a while with Ariel, but he'll never be completely at home as a prince. At the same time, he probably appreciates sailing more because he's got responsibilities. He can't just go out all the time, so he takes every opportunity whether it's rowing down the river or a vacation in Atlantica. I think he'll gain an even greater appreciation/respect for the ocean once Ariel teaches him a few things about it.
Speaking of which, here's a fun topic: Now that Eric's in love with a bona-fide mermaid, what's he most excited to learn about the sea? What would he be happiest to visit/witness in Atlantica?

I think he'd just be in awe of the culture and architecture. As an explorer himself I'm sure he has a great appreciation for other cultures. I think he'd be intensely interested in the social structure of Atlantica, as well as wanting to see all of the places Ariel loved so much.

I think the idea that at least some sea creatures are intelligent/can talk would be kind of a big deal. LOL. And as I've said elsewhere, I think he'd be very awed by King Triton. I can totally some hero-worship happening at first.
As for Atlantica I think he'd jsut want to see/experiance as much as posiible before hed had to leave. And, as Coral said, I think places that he knew were significant or Ariel or that she had previously described to him would be high priorities.
For what it's worth I also think he and Spot would be very fast friends if they got a chance to meet. After the intial shock of WHALE! BIG WHALE! Eric would get a huge kick out of playing with him.

I agree with Coral, that Eric would really want to see all the things that Ariel and described and he'd want to hear all the stories and get to meet all of her friends and just really enjoy being the one asking questions for once instead of answering them. I also see him being really interested in the culture. I always see Eric as wanting to know as much about every new place he goes as he can (thus I can see him speaking like 4 languages).
Plus, I think Ariel would just get a kick out of seeing Eric "unhinged" in a place he'd never been. I mean, Eric is always the cool, collected one, getting a kick out of how much Ariel is taken by small little things. I think Ariel would just die laughing as Eric stared in awe of huge whales and new types of fish and all the history of Atlantica (which he will soon learn in "King Triton's Court"...).

Ooh. It's not nice to tease Aquisha. I am very much looking forward to your interpretation of the rest of Eric's adventures in Atlantica.

Ooh! So excited about the HIKTC update!
And at the risk of repeating what has already been said, I agree with points of Eric being really fasinated with that he could explore the ocean up close and personal. Like Aquisha said, he seemed like he'd want to learn about a lot of places, and I can really see him knowing a few different languages. He would for a numer of reasons. One; for diplomacy. Two; he been around sailors, that I can imagine came from a lot of different places. Three; he would have done a lot of sailing! LOL

I think Eric would be excited to see Ariel's grotto and all the places in Atlantica she liked to hang out at. I think that he'd like hearing all the names for human stuff she made up XD. He'd probably be interested in all the different sea creatures( after the inital shock--"They can talk!" ), and the culture of Atlantica. I'd imagine he had come into contact with a bunch of different cultures since he's a prince. He'd probably enjoy seeing the architecture and such as well.

Oh, lordy. You know what I'd love? Is for Eric to meet Athena. I have a feeling he'd think she was hot and feel weird about it. In more of a way a little boy would have a crush on his teacher. After all, she's a more experienced, mature version of his wife.... with bigger seashells XD

After all, she's a more experienced, mature version of his wife.... with bigger seashells XD Because I am so mature, I'm sitting at the computer screen repressing many a snicker. The grotto? A given, even if Ariel'd come back to all her stuff being destroyed. He knows it meant--means--something to her and he'd be curious to hear the stories of every item she'd collected. He'd definitely like to hang around with the whales or even some rare fish, too. I can see him asking questions just to prove every sailor myth he'd heard. I think he'd enjoy lots of little things about ocean life, sort of like Ariel does with the human world. Since you're not bound to the ground in the ocean, he'd probably enjoy the freedom of going as high or as deep as you wanted. It might be a little weird for him to live with no stairs.

You know I never even thought of the stairs thing, but yeah they'd be pretty useless.
I totally agree that Eric would be amazed by seemingly little things, and yes, it would be an absolutely adorable role reversal. I also think he'd be more than a little sad when it came time to leave. In fact I could see Grimsby maybe being a little aprehensive about letting him visit in the first place, in case he decided he'd rather just stay in Atlantica and not be king after all. (Not that Eric would, although I think he'd be tempted, just a little.)

Oh, I totally had to stop myself from writing about stairs in HIKTC and it was so weird! I had to use a thesaurus to find other words for ramp!
What are some places that we think would have been Eric's favorites to visit?

The ship graveyard! That just seems like such a cool place. And there's no telling how many hundreds of years of ship history could be there. As a sailor Eric would love getting to see 300-year-old ship up close and personal.

...as Josh Groban's "Oceano" plays on Pandora...
Yes, the ship graveyard! It'd be extra cool if he found something he lost in a shipwreck, or if he found something he knew about. All the old fish stories wouldn't be stories anymore--he'd have proof!
I think he'd like to see the wide open spaces in the ocean, perhaps playing with the traveling sea turtles or dolphins. If dawn or sunset rolled around, I think Eric would want to know what the twilit ocean looked like form down below.
Coral gardens would be a given, too. So much life squeezed into one place! He'd probably enjoy mer-spelunking, as long as the caves didn't look too ominous.
If they could do some serious traveling, I think Eric'd like to see the famous waters of the world--every ocean and its mer-culture, as well as lakes and rivers. Provided merpeople aren't confined to the ocean, it'd be extra interesting to see Amazon river mermaids or maybe the Venetian residents. XD

I think the water in Venice would be a little too shallow, and IIRC very polluted. But, yeah, I think Eric would love an extended tour of underwater civilization.
"Grim the point of this trip is to...umm improve Mer/Human relations. Yeah, that's it. So you see, it's absolutely necessay that we we go away, for say, the next three of four years-for purely diplomatic reasons. Oh look there's King Triton. Gottagobye! We'll write when we can." *Grabs Ariel and runs before Grimsby can get a word in.*
Hee. Or that's what he'd like to do anyway.

I remember when we talked about what he'd go to college for/career. I have to say I can see him majoring in geography as well.

We shuffled around the Navy or the Coastguard, too. I can't see him looking for trouble, but he's willing to defend the ones he loves. He certainly proved himself with Ariel. XD
