I could see a modern day Eric being in the Navy. Maybe a research scientist with the Navy. Then he'd get access to places many civilian scientists only dream about.

Movie!Eric I could see in the Navy or Coastguard. Musical!Eric not so much. Actually I have a hard time picturing what a modern Mus!Eric would do...maybe something in Anthropology or Archeology? That would be an interesting alternative for Mov!Eric too.

I could definitely see Eric in the Navy or Coastguard. He'd love traveling, and I think he'd like to help people too. Or maybe a marine biologist or an advocate for keeping oceans clean?

Breathing underwater. Walking on water. Talking to fish. Talking to animals. From the two whole episodes I've seen of Avatar, waterbending. Transforming into a sea monster/mythical sea creature. Anything to do with the water, even remotely. Ability to withstand cold temperatures. Just rattling off ideas.

So we have a bit of a water theme going on. LOL. I could also see Eric maybe having psychometry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychometry Which basically would mean that he could learn things about a person or object by touching them/it. It wouldn't necessarily be concrete information, more like scattered images or having a feeling about something. And maybe even push a little of his energy back. For example Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon has that ability. It's more pronounced in the manga, but it's in the anime too. Like when he would pick Rini/Chibi-Usa up or take her hand and sometimes see a flash of Crystal Tokyo, and get the feeling that he needed to protect her. Or how he gave her his energy to keep her from dying after Mistress 9 took her heart crystal. Actually that would work out nicely with my pet theory about Ariel. Which is that her voice is actually sort of magic. More or less I think she has the ability of a Siren, and that it's something she inherited from her Mom. In my head it's a very rare gift. Not that she's brainwashing people, but that when she sings the listener 'hears' the true thoughts and emotions behind her song. And given that it's Ariel singing, it's the equivalent of a giant soul-hug, So if we follow both my ideas from there that would mean that when she sang to Eric and he reached for her hand they pretty much both laid their souls open and *accepted* each other, making them feel completely safe and loved. Hence that after being interrupted they both felt so drawn to each other. |

I never put it as cutely as "soul-hug", but I'd like to think that Ariel's voice retained some siren qualities. I obviously don't think Eric gets hypnotized every time Ariel hums to herself, or else he'd never be awake again. XD I think that you can feel Ariel's voice as well as hear it, especially for people like Eric. It's not really a power that has a name, just some connection that you get. Some feeling you don't get with anyone else. -grabs pen and notebook and runs away- |

Oh, wow! I like those both! I mean it makes a lot of sense since Eric is such a thinker and a feeler. Maybe he would develope his that power over time, and just always be seen as an over-comtemplater when it was his power maturing.
That Ariel thing reminds me of a thread I was in at Fant were Frollo was going to accuse Ariel of being evil and that she put a spell on Eric via her voice. But that's such a lovely theory you've come up with. And hey, her voice being 'magical' would be another reason for Ursula to want it.
Speaking of Rping;
I have a thread at Fantasmic I REALLY want to revive since Tayy (Aladdin) is back. It was where Eric and Al meet on the way to Prince Edward's ball, and both get lost together, while forming a fast friendship.
But, we were wanting Al and Eric at some point get into a fight, where they'd end up wrestling in the mudd XD
I know they'd get along really well which is why I'm having a hard time coming up with what Aladdin might do, or what Eric may do to make them angry at one another. Any thoughts? LOL

I'm glad my ideas aren't totally off-the-wall however.
And yeah, Ursula would love to be able to persuade people just by the sound of her voice alone. It'd save her a lot of work. Also IMO that's why nobody realized something was terribly wrong with Brainwashed!Eric. It wasn't the full-blown "Obey my every command mind-slave." she used on him, more a subtler "See no evil, hear no evil, these aren't the droids you're looking for, everything's fine".
As for your RP:
Aladdin could make some crack about evil mermaids or something because of his experience with Selene (the one from his TV series, not my character) and Eric could take it personally maybe?
BTW could you link me to the one about Frollo accusing Ariel? I'd like to see how that played out.

Yes, missy. You're kind of driving me crazy with all of your "possible spoilers" Meh  LOL Everytime I watch the fake wedding of Eric and Ursula I laugh so hard since everyone else there is freaking out, but Eric just stands there zombie-fied while the insanity takes place. And no one noticed XD My theory on another reason WHY no one noticed, except for Max, why Eric was acting so differently is because Eric came across as being really serious and stiff-- which could be taken as him being extra serious about his kingly duties. We talked a lot about it, and ideas we had. It was one of my baby threads. You might also notice a a peice from it I used in TTWDPF. I'm guilty of at times coping and pasting, my own work. My friend's demanding the first chapter after AP testing, so after she beats the crap out of it I'll be willing to hand it out. After that I'm going back to tinkering with the other fourteen. I won't post until the whole thing is done (changing one detail affects most other chapters, a problem I just ran into) but if y'all nag enough I'll PM the first chapter.
As for the RP, does it have to be an angry fight? Mud-wrestling, to me, conjures up images of fighting to blow off steam. If it is sparked out of anger, I'd imagine Al would throw one of the mermaid cracks Eric's heard loads of times. Or it could be stress gradually eating away at their nerves; that always seems to try people more than anything else.
Oooh, I love the Frollo thread! It would have been great if it was finished. I must admit I love villain/heroine stories (I blame Lemony Snicket, darnit!) and the thread died just at the good part! D:
Blaaah, I'll be in DC when the new chapter is out. It'll be a nice surprise when I get back. XD

Me too!!!!! In fact, in my story about Prince Steven (that Amy drew), I actually say that Ariel was taught how to sing by a siren. Steven himself also has the ability to control the weather, inherited from his grandfather Triton.
The psychometry power for Eric is perfect. It fits perfectly with his movie character, and even the musical character. Hmm.... I feel more inspiration coming about that one story that I still need to get down on paper.

Is anything from that story sitting around? Cause I'd be happy to, you know, take a look. Just to help out. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I'd really like to read some new TLM fanfiction. Nothing at all. Stop looking at me like that!  You know another power you could give Eric that would be consistant with the movie would be a certain amount of invulnerability. Not only did he survive being blowed up and drowned, but that he wasn't killed by Ursula is down-right miraculous. If I felt like using that idea in a story, I'd probably say that if soemthing doesn't immediately kill him, he'll eventually recover. That said if he say, lost a limb, he wouldn't grow a new one or anything. Maybe he's immortal? THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE! |

I'm also playing on that a little bit in Until We Meet Again. The whole invincible thing, that is.
I don't like the opening I have for that other story, so I need to scrap it and start over. It's leaning too close to being OOC for Ariel.
And now after reading that link from Jodi, I feel the need to start working on it!!! *leaves to read chapter 4 of BSS in the hope of cleansing my brain*
