Yeah, I honestly don't care if the whole world loves him. Some people just like more elaborate charres, and we all like what we like But I don't see the hatred, it's just pointless and stupid. Not to mention I haven't heard a solid argument for all the ranting against him. Honeslty if you're that hostel to a fictional character you need to GET A LIFE! (fangirling is different, it's positive and doesn't screw up my friendships LOL) I'm sorry Melissa That really sucks you have a crappy Ariel, complete with crappy mods to boot! I've been blessed with Kelly (Aquanut) who has Ariel down pat. And I mean ARIEL. lolz Not to mention you've been a awesome Eric from what I've read of your's. It's not your fault LOL P.M. Jasmine, though make sure Al isn't in the picture, since I love him too and don't want his heart-broken as well. Ooh! Jess you know I love that resume. Hee! Yes, it's true, Ariel/Eric paved the way for future disney charries. I always say Eric was the first "nerd" prince kind of like Peter Parker was the first "nerd" superhero. And I love them both for it LOL Thanks. I think I'm just going to try Eric/Jaz, especially after reading One World Closer ( which is awesome so far by the way )on fanfic.net I think the animators probably have some say in creating the characters. I really wish I knew the name of whoever drew Eric. Mystery Animator I applaud you!

-giggle- I'd like to think that I'm not of the rabid variety of fangirls but I do love to indulge in my obsession. A lot. Like that wasn't apparent. But I'm in good company, I guess! Matt O'Callaghan? I think there was somebody else said in the DVD commentary, but I can't remember the name. Never found any interviews or anything. Checked animationpodcast.com, but I don't think they've talked to him yet. If they don't have it, he's a pretty low-profile guy. I haven't listened to all their shows, but TLM is discussed in some of them. I know it's in James Baxter's segment and I'm pretty sure it's in Ron and John's, but no others that I remember. Eric probably wouldn't be mentioned, but all the interviews are hugely interesting anyway. But I digress.

OMG! Mandy and I were writng One World Closer. But the project since then has been placed on the back burner, or that's what I'm saying hoping we'll get to it again one day XD. Thanks so much for the compliment. Though it was my earlier writing for him. Not my best, but it's still nice to hear Yes, Mat O'Callaghan. I remember his name and someone else was mentioned on the commentary. Oh, and another thing I've heard was that Eric's design was based off of Rob Lowe who was really popular at that time. www.moviecatcher.net/images/rob-lowe1.jpg Maybe it's just me but I can see it!

I still haven't watched it with the commentary. I really need to do that.
He does kind of look like Rob Lowe!

That is so sweet! Thank you! You have been an AMAZING Eric! I couldn't ask for a better one! (I adore all our AU rp's! xD) And I can definitely see Rob Lowe in Eric's design. Especially based on that picture!

Ariel and Eric's antics on Fant. are hugely entertaining. From what I've read, anyway. XP And the creative team must have taken elements from Rob Lowe. I wouldn't choose him over Sean Maher for a live action Eric, but Sean wasn't old enough in 1989!
Does anyone remember who worked on Eric besides Matt O'Callaghan? Don't quote me on this, but didn't they do a bit of Louie too? I don't remember what they said in the commentary.
Hmm, here's a topic: I think we've touched on things like this before, but here goes anyway. If you could see one extra Eric-y scene animated in TLM, what would it be? We got a solid character in the hour-and-a-half film, but what else would you be most interested in learning?

How does he interact with his people, from a ruler's standpoint? He's very fleshed out in regards to Ariel, but we really know nothing of how he is as a ruler. Obviously the people of the kingdom like him, but is it because of his father being a great king or has he earned that admiration in his own right?

I think Eric would be a very hand-on monarch to the point of going out of propriety, as Grim would see it. I think he'd have gotten this feeling of responsibility to his people from his father. Since the kingdom is so small, I think it would be very easy and logical that the rulers would be very present in their kingdom.
So, in short, I think that Eric would be very involved in the kingdom and its well being, both domestically and abroad.

I can definitely see the resemblence! I think that if they added an extra scene of Eric, I'd like to see him interact with his people as a ruler. I think he'd be more of the hands-on type ruler--someone who'd go out to town once and a while and see how his people were doing, and someone who'd hear and resolve their issues.

I'd like to think his people treated him just like a regular person, too. Probably not at first, but once Eric got comfortable with himself as a ruler, things would change for the better.

If I could watch an Eric-related scene I would definatly watch a background check on him. His past, his mother and father including how he rules his kingdom and so forth. Maybe a conversation between Grimbsy and Eric like in the scene in the dining hall. It's still ashame there isn't enough Eric in TLM... there isn't enough Eric in ANY movie!! One thing that I was wondering is that in the dining hall scene there's big portrait above the fireplace at the very beginning with two people init... it's Aurora and Philip!!! You've probably noticed but I thought my theory of his parents went straight out the window, but I just think it's just a reeeeeeeaaaallly annoying easter egg :/

When I first read that I immediately thought of a criminal background check. Has Eric been making deals with Ursula or what? -fiendish giggle-
Could be that they were closely allied with Phillip and Aurora's kingdom at some point. They could have gotten a portrait painted, maybe visited and traded often. It would certainly explain the jumping abilities of that super!horse Eric drove during the tour of the kingdom. Its ancestor was off fighting dragons with Phillip!
Don't mind my obsession with pretty ponies. It's a curse. (:
But yes, I did notice that before. I think they were just paying homage to the movie, and I'm much more concerned about those checkered floor tiles. -shakes fist- The first thing Eric needs to do as king is to renovate his dining hall!
I love the dinner scene, but I tend to complain a lot about it. Mostly because of those darn floor tiles. XD

I should think more about what I write... But Zavi I actually like the floor tiles there something very... Mcdonalds tiling about it -lol- Nahh there pretty awful floor tiles

I think it's just an easter egg . That or they're his ancestors from waaaay back ( I'm pretty sure that in Sleeping Beauty Phillip says it's the 14th century ). Anyone up for a new topic? Do you like Eric better in the movie, or the musical? I like them both equally to tell the truth. What I like about what they did to him in the musical is the fact that he's even more pensive and perceptive. He's always been the thinker, but I think that that really comes out in the musical, because he actually chooses Ariel even when he doesn't know that it was her voice. Then again, in the movie, Eric takes more action by fighting Ursula. I know they wanted to bring out Ariel's independence and all, but it would have been nice if he'd been more active in the battle. Look-wise, Eric's ponytail is really growing on me XD Not to mention that I'm in love with Sean Palmer and addicted to his voice. But I still love messy-haired Eric.

I don't think I like one over the other. They're both wonderful, but each in their own way. Each one pulls out different aspects of the character.

I think Movie!Eric has a slight edge for me because of the action-y stuff and because I've 'known him longer', if you will. That said, Musical!Eric is adorkable and I love him dearly as well.

This is a little biased since I haven't seen the show, but I'd have to pick Movie!Eric. They're both awesome characters, but I think it's more interesting to have Eric as a sailor prince instead of a prince who happens to be a sailor. Know what I mean? And as Jess said, movie!Eric is permanently bound to my childhood and therefore wins.

Yeah, I have to agree as well. The only thing I really like better is how he chose Ariel over the voice in the musical. I mean, you can tell how in the movie he's conflicted because he's love with Ariel and the "mystery girl", but I think they make that more apparent in the musical. I just like how he's even more pensive. But yes, Movie Eric takes the cake.

Grr, all this talk of the musical makes me want to see it even more! -bounces in chair waiting for the tour dates- Boston, Boston, Boston!
I'd definitely like that better, too. A lot of people seem to think that Eric's flighty when it comes to women because of his movie!conflict, and it's great that they "improved" things in the musical. It certainly gives me more material to argue in favor of our boy. (:
