Aquisha: Have you seen the Colin Firth P&P? That's by far the most faithful. Also if you do end up trying the book again I suggest skipping to Elizabeth's converstaion with Caroline Bingley and Dracy in the Library (not far from where you left off). It gets better as it goes on, I promise. That said even if it's not your cup of tea, you don't lose your girl cred.
I love Lizzy and thinK Eric would would like *her* but I think Eric might be too much of a Bingly and not enough of a Darcy to appeal to her. LOL. ' I think Marianne from Sense & Sensibility might be a good match actually. She's very Ariel-like in that she's passioantte, a romantic, very good with music, and perhaps a little self-involved though she cares very much for those around her.

Yes, I have seen the Masterpiece Theatre P&P and it is by far my favorite adaptation! I think I will love Colin Firth forever, and even excuse that travesty of movie musicals "Mamma Mia", because of that film. I don't know, I think I'm just a Jane Eyre person and always will be.
I can see him being with Marianne as well. You're right, she's very Ariel-esque in a lot of ways including the "I'll just run off into the wilderness with my love's name on my lips hoping it will suffice to bring him into my life" thing.

Better yet, have you seen Collin Firth in Wuthering Heights? Hareton AND a puppy, all packaged in delicious seconds of Collin Firth goodness? Although Collin Firth as Darcy isn't too bad if I do say so myself. ^^
And no, it does not get better as it goes on, Jess. XD Besides Lydia an Wickham. But this is coming from a Mr. Collins fangirl. I think Eric would have serious issues with the Bennet sisters, but considering what he's got to deal with in canon it shouldn't be too much of a feat.

Aquisha, I don't even like the Austen movies! I sat through the Firth P&P one time and that was one time too many. I seriously dislike Austen.
I'm going to have to do some thinking to come up with someone non-Disney. I think that'll make the discussion more interesting.

P&P! I loved that book <3--though it's been forever since I read it. Our school is doing the play, so that got me excited.
Personally, I could see Eric with me of course Elphaba from Wicked. They just sort of click to me.

Sorry guys, Iied. I was totally thinking Matthew MacFayden for Hareton. Shame on me for mixing up my period actors. XP
All the characters I like are either male, really creepy, not Eric's type, are miserable anti-heroes, criminals, or are not Eric's species. No appropriate matches are coming to mind. As much as I love him, Eric/Heathcliff...no. Nonononnonono. That would end in disaster and a serious need for brain bleach.

Oh yeah, Eric as Heathcliff no way! He was self-destructive, bitter and angry. An AU Heathcliff where Cathy doesn't spurn him maybe.

Leave it to me to only be able to name off the literary miserables. (:
Has anyone seen the Disney on Ice routines for our boy? I believe some DoI is in Boston ATM, and I need to go there this month anyway...
But I've been looking for at least an hour trying to find a clip I saw of harpoon-wielding Eric defeating Ursula. The kick-buttness explodes out of the whole thing, and for the life of me I can't reolcate it! I have lots of substitutes, though, some of which include parts of the battle scene. Excuse the mountain of YouTube links.
Here's the most complete part of the battle, although this Ursula looks pretty bad and the quality isn't too good. The one I saw was more extended and followed the princey more.
Most high-quality one I can find. Is it just me or is does Eric look REALLY nice with a harpoon in his hand? (:
Eric gets Fathoms Below in some shows, and this is the highest-quality one I can find. It's an instrumental break that really doesn't sound like the song at all. Although the sailor high-five totally makes up for it. Hehe!
Watch the Kiss the Girl routines. There are a few variations, all wonderful.
1:50 onward, when the sweeeet rendition of POYW plays. It's beautiful. Just for tonight, let us unite, here on the shooooooore... ETA:
Found this better one, but still no sign of the clip I saw before.
And of course, thank Jess for creating a monster and finding this:
This one. Oh. Oh geez. Vanessa on ice. *swoon* The routine is phenomenal, and since when are Vanessa's scenes ever fleshed out in official material? Or in most fanfic for that matter, but still.

whoa, awesome links! XD I saw Worlds of Fantasy on Ice but The Little Mermaid part was weird because Eric just kissed Ariel before sunset on the third day LOL XD
i'm SO happy to see Vanessa on ice though! I feel like you almost never seen Vanessa in performances. XD! although with all the music and dancing, it felt more like Eric was seduced by Vanessa than enchanted by her voice. @_@ kinda looked more like Jodi's Rosa + Eric than Vanessa + Eric on ice XD

Hope you guys don't mind my interrupting, but I just wanna add my voice to the Eric love. When I rewatched TLM, I saw that he was a deeper character then many pple give him credit for.
It's so amazing to me that you guys have obviously put so much thought into fleshing out his character: giving him parents, his quirks, a back story, etc. I love reading this thread, as well as the old one at LAF (yes, I lurked).
Have you guys thought about preserving the old thread?

We're almost fanatical about Eric, in case you haven't noticed. Hmm, I can't say I'm that big of fan LOL! This board is like Plymouth Rock for Eric fans. And a certain other place is like England (of that era) LOL, BTW, I've been writing him in the modern sense so I've been catchin up more on American history, since in my writings he's from Boston. lolz

Hehe! That amuses me so much since my entire family is from Mass. We paahk aah caaahs in Hahvahd Yahd. If you ever need any Mass tidbits, you talk to me. (:
It's totally great that people other than us are so interested in the thread, though. I certainly love thinking about this stuff (a bit too much at times) and it's great we're being heard well.

We're almost fanatical about Eric, in case you haven't noticed. I can't say that I noticed, lol. Plymouth Rock, huh? Maybe we need to make up some sort of Eric-based holiday or something. XD I think it's natural for some fans, especially writers, to think about the characters we love, particularly if said character hasn't been explored much in canon. What's great about Eric is that Disney gives you a general idea of what he's like, but there's still enough shown about him, so you can get creative and fill in the blanks.

Most high-quality one I can find. Is it just me or is does Eric look REALLY nice with a harpoon in his hand? (: Agreed! The only thing better than Eric with a harpoon is Eric with the trident--that's the only reason I played Kingdom Hearts 2. That and Agrabah but that's a different story XD. I was browsing deviantart and found this beautiful pic: hollano.deviantart.com/art/Prince-Eric-Post-Battle-154069122

OOh, lately I've been inspired to plot on what kind of villain Eric would be in an opposite universe.
In my head he'd be a combo of Cutler Beckett and Scar from TLK. Fixated on his status and wealth. Hates "dumb animals" and anything different in general. He's as smart and tacful as the real Eric, but he's more ruthless, confident and assertive. Nice to your face (unless you're a minion) , but stab you in the back.
Also in the universe I have in mind, he consulted with pirates to get his father (a very bad guy in this setting) "out of the way" so he could take over. I think once he'd have found out about merpeople, he'd want to harvest the resources, since the sea is what the world is mostly made of. Land is only a small part of it really.
oooh, I'd have so much fun with this distorted version xD

That does sound like fun, Jodi! What an interesting take on it too.
And in other news this thread has now topped 2,000 views.
