How long do you think CDs have left, before they're just immediately forgotten about? I mean, tons of people today have Ipods, and if not that, they regularly download music, therefore, not needing a CD.
Then there's people like me, who have sattelite radio (Awesome!), and therefore, have access to more music content, then just dragging along a bunch of CDs.
I haven't done much with CDs at all for the longest time, so I'm curious to see what anyone elses' thoughts on it are?

I've never really gotten into the whole downloading music thing. I don't buy music very much at all, to be honest. Most of my favorite music was made 60-70 years ago.

They're already weaning CDs out of the picture. The soundtrack for UP wasn't released on CD. It's just downloadable. It's a little sad to see this "generation" go by, but in the same way, it saves the world a lot of plastic and energy. For the environment's sake, no CDs is a good thing.

I don't think that CDs will ever entirely vanish given that they're so durable. While they're being relegated to a small cultish status, it has to be noted that many people, after acquiring the music through download, decide that they want a hard physical copy of the music of the thing. I don't think that attitude will just go away.

Good point zocarris, however, they can still get rid of copyrighted CDs. I don't think they'll go away for a very long time, however, that doesn't mean that the sales for them will do well, nor that many people will use them as much.

Meh, I still use CDs. But I'll probably end up putting my TLM Broadway original cast CD on my ipod. Though I do admit I use itunes more than buying CDs.

I am not sure what to believe on this topic. I honestly believe that CDs will around for a lonnnggg time. Like when they took away VHS, I think those could last longer then DVD. VHS won't skip or break. I do like the idea of the iPod and downloadable music but I like having CDs...I enjoy that, even though it may seem to some as "old fashioned".

But a VHS doesn't last as long as a DVD either. Plus it takes up way more space.
