Great fanfics are rare gems spread across the wild oceans of the internet, waiting for mer-explorers to dig them up. This thread honors the brilliant writers of the Little Mermaid universe and their works. Hope it gives them the recognition and readership they deserve.
Coldness and Burning
Rosa Cotton
---
All of Rosa Cotton's works are a pleasure to read, but this one is a must for all TLM fans. A take on what happens after Kiss the Girl rife with conflict and rich, vibrant imagery. Eric's dialogue is well-paced and true-to-character.
Other fantastic Rosa works include Wish and Felt Instead of Heard.
Bright Things
Penknife
---
While futurefics in the mermaid universe can often run too melancholy or out-of-character, Bright Things addresses this in a way that shows Ariel's bounce-back attitude and awe without sacrificing emotion and conflict. Penknife has an excellent knack for visual symbolism. Warning for mild sexual content.
Triton's Cove
CJ
---
Like Bright Things, Triton's Cove gives readers a look into Ariel's life on land with both conflict and Ariel's undying love for the human world. It examines both Eric and Ariel's sacrifices for their intertidal marriage as well as their desire to work through the adjustment and come out better for that.
Cast Your Soul
Nina
---
From the start Nina weaves tension into Cast Your Soul leaving readers swimming (pardon the pun) for more. Each bit of dialogue is rife with conflict and measures the separation between Eric and Ariel. A fantastic piece detailing our mermaid and prince's struggle to be together.
Believing in Heaven
Candyland
---
Believing in Heaven is a bittersweet one-shot set in an AU where Ariel remains mute. Candyland has an excellent grasp of character and shows that Ariel and Eric's love runs far deeper than just a voice. Though the differences stretch long between them, Ariel finds her own way to speak.
The Span of a Year
Angelgidget
---
This fic is guaranteed to make you smile like you're watching Kiss the Girl for the first time. It perfectly captures Ariel's childlike fascination with the human world, going from season to season with something new to discover. This author has also joined us recently, so I'm very pleased to welcome her to TSG. Great to have you!
But it Is Not Right
Steve Zissou
---
A brilliant take on Eric's thoughts while under Vanessa's spell. The dialogue is hazy and haunting and captures Eric's character perfectly. But it Is Not Right has an excellent use of wordplay and sound that gives an almost frightening glimpse of what Vanessa's spell is like.
