IMO, the person who should've ended up with Ariel (yeah, I said it), and one of the underrated characters in all of TLM's history. Discuss!

I must respectfully disagree with you on the point of 'shipping, but I concur with your other staement.
I flove Urchin as a charcater and I adore his friendship with Ariel but I never saw romance in the cards for them. He definitely had a little crush going on, but I can't really picture Ariel resipricating. Especially after he became her unofficial adopted brother.
I think he and Gabriella would have made a cute couple, you know, if they'd ever gotten a chance to meet on screen.
Also, I totally fanwank that the blonde merboy Melody crushes on is his son.

I've always wondered why that was never really talked about, nor capitalized on. If they didn't want a part of that at all, then even mention something like that. You don't just put something in there, if you're not going to follow it up at all. I hate stuff like that to be honest.
I always thought Urchin was around Ariels' age, unless he has an official age somewhere.
I believe they would be great together because they're so similar it's crazy lol.. Of course, even if it wasn't Urchin, I would have someone else be with Ariel.

Re Urchin's age. I always pegged him at twelve or thirteen, with Ariel a year or two older. Myabe it's cause I have my own li'l bro, but Ariel's interactions with him to me seemed a little motherly or big sister-y, from her POV.

Actually, there wasn't much of anything in the TV series to show Ariels feelings of romance, so we'll never know about that. In the series, it seemed as though Ariel was never interested in romance at all. Besides, it was only played up in one episode.
I think if he revealed to her somewhere in the TV series, we would get an answer, but that will never happen, unless someone revitalizes the TV series, but that will probably never happen lol..

Right. The series never delved into Ariel having romantic feelings for anyone.
What was only played up in one episode?

Urchins' true feelings for Ariel. It was only shown in one episode, the episode where everyone thought Ariel would be forced to marry that prince. I forgot the episode name.

LOL. I think it was 'A Marriage of Inconvience' XD I liked Urchin and Gabriella too XD Both so cute! I do really like him. See? I thought the makers of the show purposely made him seem younger than she to avoid the possibilty of romance. And I don't think that certain couples who are really similar usually work out very well. Ariel (as much as I DO love her!) needed some growing up to do, and Urchin needed to more so. Like I'll hear Ariel and Aladdin ships (I'm a HUGE Aladdin fangirl LOL) but I don't see them as a good couple. Jasmine is good for Aladdin (for the same reason Eric is good for Ariel) since she doesn't completely drive into things head first, unless she's been trapped for sixteen years, or if someone is in trouble. I like that she flat out told Aladdin when she her opinion of things. I see Jasmine as being more of the voice of reason, like Eric. They'd both be the ones to provide balence to the relationship, and Aladdin and Ariel for them That's what's part of a good relationship, not just someone you can have fun with but something where you can learn from the other person, and they you. The other thing is in the film other characters around Ariel and Eric didn't really understand why one was in love with the other. But that's another thing, a lot of people's feelings don't make sense all the time unless you're the one feeling tham. Love can be that way, no one can know except you. One of the things is that Ariel knew her heart, and self well, and that's part of what got her into trouble. So her POV may not make sense, and the same could be said for Eric's, but only can really know what you feel. I'm a firm believer that a person can't help who they love. imho oh! Are they or did they ever put the series on dvd?

No series on DVD as of yet, and as far as I know no plans to do so. Which really doesn't make sense to me because there are enough TLM and Aladdin fans to make it well worth their while. I'd buy both in a heart beat!
I've always liked Urchin, but never saw him as a romantic interest for Ariel. Even if Eric had never entered the picture. I do see Urchin as at least 2 years younger then Ariel. I too have little brothers and watching them onscreen was very much a big-sister/little brother relationship.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who likes to think the blond merboy is Urchin's son! Urchin's a rather important character in my fic The Siren. He's become head of the palace guard and knows everything about everyone. In a nice sort of way, not like a gossip.

Right, like in a "my job is to protect ever single person in the kingdom with my life" kind of way. IMO Urchin definitely has a lot of loyalty to Atlantica, Triton, and of course Ariel for giving him a place where he could find a home and a family.
And I *so* need to hear more about this fic of yours.

Also, I totally fanwank that the blonde merboy Melody crushes on is his son. Now that is an idea of win. I always loved Urchin. Very cute character, fun, entertaining. I always love those 'sibling' relationships too, and enjoyed those moments from the cartoon. Too bad he was never tied into any sequels or anything of that nature.

If they really wanted to do that, then they probably would've just scratched the episode altogether. It wouldn't have affected the series at all.
Probably because it was pretty self-explanatory, and didn't really need explaining lol..
Nope, and I don't think you will see them anytime soon. Maybe if they do something big with TLM, they will do it for promotional value. It's still on the Disney Channel, just at 4:00am, East Coast. You could alway set it to record them.

Is it just me or am I not able to find any Disney RPGs with a sane Ariel? XD Anyway, I love Urchin, not as much as Eric, but he's a good guy. His friendship with Ariel is really cute but I really don't think she was interested in anyone in the TV Series. At this point I think she was way too immature for a relationship with anyone. And I think the main reason they did that is because we knew who she was gonna end up with in the end. Don't get me wrong, Urchin is one of my favorite characters in the series, and is extremely underrated( I wanted to see him in Ariel's Beginning ) but I just can't see him with Ariel. I think they had more of a brother-sister relationship sort of thing( save for that one episode when he was totally crushing on her ). The best parallel I can come up with is the Ariel-Flounder relationship.

Yes, I think Urchin would be cute with Gabriella.
