Hmm, I logged into LAF today and noticed that someone had edited a few of their posts....
Edit: I'm not wanting to cause trouble, I just think that people should stand by the mistakes they made rather than sweep it under the rug.
Now, I'm done

After reading your post, I went to see what you're talking about, and I saw. Hmm, now I know why I'm pretty much done with LAF lol.. It's really sad in my opinion.
I also noticed that the whole Disney section has basically been destroyed.

It really saddens me to see this happening to LAF. I remember what it used to be like and how much fun it was.
Our main goal here at TSG is to make sure that this doesn't happen again. We want this place to always be open and transparent. Jess and I will always strive to be fair and honorable in all our dealings with EVERY TLM fan who comes here. Especially when we don't agree with them about some aspect of the TLM universe.

Exactly. Debate is perfecty fine, and in fact encouraged, but if anybody feels that they are being attacked for the opinions they hold that is absolutely not okay. If any of you ever feel that is happening, even and epsecially if it involves a mod or me and Rachel, let us know.
We want everyone to feel welcome.

I should be, but that's another story lol..
Anyway, when is new layout of the site going to be finished. I think it looks fine on the logout screen.
EDIT: Actually, I just thought of another suggestion. How about a Opinion/Debate board section? They have seemed to work well on other sites I've been on.

I don't know. That seems a little seperated. I mean most topics inspire at least some debate. If there's a specific topic you're thinking of feel free to start a thread on the relevant board.

I'm not too keen on that idea either. Something like that can be very divisive and I've seen things like that destroy boards.

LOL! Thank you Rachel. It's just been asking to be made for a while now. hehe.
Yeah, I don't think there's need to have a seperate thread, since this thread is a good way to get people's opinions and ideas. And as Elphie said, most things can inspire debate on here LOL

Unless it can go in the human stuff area, random debating/opinions can't go anywhere else lol..

I'm confused. What would you want to debate?
I'm gonna be a little preemptive here and say that Religion/Politics/etc. would probably be a bad idea just by their very nature. But other than that, go ahead and put it in human stuff if it doesn't fit elsewhere.
Can you give me some examples of the kind of stuff you want to talk about though? Just so i can be sure I'm understanding what you're asking.

*seconds what Jess said*
With such a diverse group of people, the potential for hurting or offending someone is too great to consider having a section of the board just for debating. Especially with the politics of our day and the way people are so polarized right now. This is first and foremost a Little Mermaid board.

Right. Debating say, who the best incarnation of Batman is (Kevin Conroy), or the literary merit of the Twilight books verus the Dresden Files (Dresden by a mile), is all in good fun, but people take their beliefs, be them secular or spiritual, very seriously.
Just use your common sense as to what's appropriate and what's not. If a topic you want to discuss seems to be in murky water, run it by me or Coral via PM first.

Well, I'm not saying I specifically want to debate something, I was just wondering if we could have a place for that, if that day ever comes, for topics that don't fit anywhere else. It could be politics, it could be something else, it could be anything.
Now, to be honest, I'm don't understand about this 'offending' stuff you're talking about. Now, I thought dicussing stuff, and the like, was all in good fun. That goes for debating as well. I mean, wasn't that the problem with LAF right now, someone couldn't handle someone elses views? I would think we're all grown up enough to not act like complete morons, or whatever other name you want to throw there.
Just trying to throw stuff out there lol..

It's not that we personally can't handle someone disagreeing with our points of view. That's not the issue.
The issue is that there are some topics that can't rationally be debated. The likelihood of having a civilized conversation about abortion, or gun legislation, or religious beliefs etc. is slim to none. These are topics that people feel passionately about, one way or the other, and discussion is almost guaranteed to get heated. And frankly that's just not something we want to deal with.
Again use your judgment. If your topic is something you'd feel comfortable debating with say, extended family, or new friends that you don't know very well yet, it's probably safe. And if it's not Disney or TLM based just put it in Human Stuff.
What we don't want is people starting topics that are intentionally divisive and likely to cause arguments instead of debate.
Does that make sense?

Exactly! Our openness about TLM topics and all of that does not necessarily translate to an openness about political or religious issues being discussed on the board. For most people that's what the word "debate" conjures up, and those issues can tear a community apart very quickly and cause irreparable damage. I've seen it happen more than once and we'd rather stop it here before it starts rather than try and do damage control afterwards.
This is first and foremost a TLM board, as we've stated earlier. Other things that the community is open to discussing will naturally grow out of that as we get to know each other better. And as the community grows, the different forums can be edited and changed, or new ones added. We want the place to grow organically in the direction that is beneficial to the majority of the members, not try and force it to go a certain way.
I really do hope this is all making sense.
