This thread is dedicated to Flounder, who through thick and thin, and even abuse at times, has stuck by Ariel and her friends. I salute thee lol..

...as long as we ignore the abomination he became in TLM3. I think the opinions of TLM3!Flounder are pretty unanimous.

The TLM Flounder is the only one I know and love! He is very adorable! I like how he is scared but tries to be brave when helping Ariel saving Eric from Vanessa.

I love Flounder. I think it says a lot about him when, in spite of his timidness, he's still so loyal and true to Ariel. His VA was spot-on.
BTW, I don't know if you guys have heard or seen this idea or not, but what do you think when pple pair Flounder with Ariel? It personally kinda weirds me out, but different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

I'm also of the weirded out persuasion. I think it's because Flounder comes off as a child to me versus a fellow teenager.

Yeah, its something that actually squicks me a good deal. He just seems like a kid to me. Plus the fics for them scream Mary Sue.
I consider myself pretty open to pairs as long as you make sure you take certain elements (cannon love interest doesn't exist in that universe, ect) out and dont' force characterization based on YOUR thoughts.

Thank ya'll for reminding me of the age difference between them. Even if the film never did explicitly stated Flounder's age, he's always seemed younger then Ariel to me as well.
I've never actually sat down and read a Flounder/Ariel fic, but I did skim one just now. The writer had Flounder being kind of mad about Ariel falling in love with Eric . If he was so mad, he sure did break his neck to help Ariel and Eric get together and seemed pretty happy to see them together from what I recall.
People actually make Flounder into a Gary Stu in these stories? : - /

I hate when people make characters OOC just for the sake of pairings. It bugs so much.

Ariel/Flounder is just flat out wrong.

EWWWWWWWWW!!! Flounder/Ariel is so sick and wrong!! First of all, Flounder is a kid! He's younger than Ariel. To me, he is only 8-10 years old! Ariel dating him would be me dating my little brother!!! Blech!!!! Second of all, if he really loves her then he wouldn't be supportive of Arie loving Eric. Hey One Lucky Unicorn, tell that writer that he is on crack!

Its more likely a 'her' xD But yeah, I don't even actually like talking about shipping unless its with people I know aren't well.... stupid

Agreed, Jodi! I'm a Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew fan too, and when people ship Frank and Nancy it drives me crazy!!!!! They're too much alike to get along and neither would be truly willing to sacrifice for the other.

Shipping is such a minefield in any fandom. But yeah, I have no problems with differing opinions as long as people are respectful. But sadly a lot of the time they aren't. On topic: Flounder is awesome. Discuss.

Hey One Lucky Unicorn, tell that writer that he is on crack! LOL. As tempting as that is, the best course of action would prolly be to just ignore the author and try to churn out lots of good fic that doesn't feature such a blatant disregard for characterization and canon. Agreeing with Frida about being picky on who I discuss shipping with. But yes, Flounder is awesome. XD I'd like to see more (good) fic featuring him.
