Well.............................hmm, she's pretty boring. She's basically a younger version of Ariel, with black hair. ..............I guess that's it

Wow...I totally disagree. I think Melody is actually more like Eric, but has a splash of Ariel. She lacks Ariel's confidence and grace, but still loves the ocean, is curious and loves to explore. That and Ariel never really worried about being different, but Melody seems to not like it as much. (And I love her too Jodi! )

*HUGGLES JODI 'N KELLY / DAD 'N MOM* THANK YOU ;3 HEE HEEEE!
I agree with Kelly, Melody is DEFINITELY more like Eric, and worries too much XD<3 She does have that little rebellions streak of Ariel's but her awkwardness is obviously from Daddy.

LOL! Agreed with both. Her plot was sadly a rip off of her mom's. But along with lacking mom's confidence I however see her as being a good/concise student. Also, I will say I was impressed by how mature she was for choosing to stay with her parents rather then going to live with the merpeople. To me she isn't all that impulsive either. I mean she WAS being lied to and trapped in her home for the past twelve years. .

Actually I think she's more like Ariel was in the first movie. Like mother like daughter lol..
Don't see how she's like Eric. Eric always seemed brave, but stoic. Melody? Not so much.

LOL Well Eric has a lot of little akward moments in the first movie and seems to be more contemplative, and to me Mel's a lot like that too. There's DEFINITELY some Ariel in there too with her curious streak and longing for something else, but she's far from a carbon copy. Also IMO she's pretty much the second movie's only redeeming quality.

I like Melody, cause she seems like a fun kid to hang out with. I just wish her plot isn't a rip-off of her mother's story. Melody's story could have been so much better. She appeals to me because she's the daughter of one of my favorite disney couples.

As she is presented in the movie I find her a little on the whiny side. And there was a total lack of creativity.
But oh my does she have potential if she's placed in a better plot! I much prefer the fan fiction renditions of her, particularly Annie from Daring to Dream, in her story where Melody is 16. I love her Melody.

I think part of the problem with directly comparing Melody to Ariel is that she's twelve whereas Ariel is sixteen. That's a huuuuuuuge difference developmentally. Ariel is well on her way to being an adult and dealing with dating/leaving the nest/future issues. Melody's still a child in a lot of ways and having identity/self-esteem issues. They're superficially similar but in a lot of ways they're facing different problems at different ages.

What annoyed me about the sequel is that they rarely show you how Melody's like her dad. I thought she was too much like her mom, especially with all the "she's like her mom" stuff thrown right in my face and it is annoying. It make me think, "okay but is she like her dad?" (minus the hair). Sure, some kids are more like one parent than the other, but the kid is truly a mixture of his/her mother AND father both in personality and looks. I would have find Melody more interesting if she was a mixture of Ariel and Eric, instead of just Ariel with Eric's hair.

Yeah, I thought it was kind of pointless to keep saying she was like Ariel, especially since I don't think she's THAT much like her mom. But that was kind of the least of that movie's problem. To me she's more like dad. whether it was intentional, or unintenional I saw more Eric in her. She was more on the shy side like her dad. I also invision Eric as being a little socially awkward when he was young like her. She's got mom's rebelious streak for sure, but she struck me as more on the laid back side. For the most part she seemed to have excepted her place in life, sure she snuck out but she ran away after being embaressed and lied to. Mel puts a lot of thought into the things she does, granted if you've been lying to her for twelve years and trapping her she'll be pissed off and brash but either one of her parents would have been too. What I really liked about her though was at the end she chose to stay with mom and dad after everything. I found that really mature on her part she recognized the importance of staying.

Yeah, I agree she seems to accept her place in life. I remember her saying the reason she wanted to live in the sea because the other noble kids (like the ones from her party) thought she was weird.
