I brood more than a villain posing as Mr. Rochester. It's definitely important to let ideas incubate (none of my work would be the same without it, and my non-incubated NaNo is a testament to that) although that can easily turn into procrastination. A lot more of my pondering happens during revision rather than before I plow through the first draft.
