Nope, haven't seen it. And probably won't. I have vertigo problems and the cinematography style used in this movie makes me so dizzy I almost get sick.

I want to see it! But I was unsure at first since the plot sounds a lot like Fern Gulley, and if I don't like the look of creatures in fantasy films/books then I'm less likely to be excited xD. But I heard from reliable sources it's great!

It's based on a computer game.
My hubby watched it online the other day and from what I saw I might actually be able to sit through it. Have to wait till it comes out on DVD though.

It's based on a computer game? Source? Never heard of that to be honest.
The plot is kind of like FernGully, but FernGully is awesome, and so is this movie lol.. Trust me, you have to see it to understand.
How would this movie cause you problems Coral? As far as I know, there's nothing really different used in this movie that hasn't been used already. Also, the 3D isn't the 'jump in your face' 3D, it's normal 3D, which is good.

I have inner ear problems and anytime camera angles go out of the ordinary or the camera "shakes" a lot I get super dizzy. According to my dad it's based on a computer game. Here's the basic info on the original game, from Wikipedia so take with a grain of salt. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_(computer_game)

I saw Avatar twice during the holidays and loved it. Neytiri reminded me of Princess Kida with Pocahontas but blue. And the actress who played her was in a Disney movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

I saw it. The visuals were great but I felt that the plot was nothing new. It was like Pocahontas or Dancing with the Wolves; only with aliens instead of Native Americans.

I have friends on all sides of the Avatar love-hate spectrum (I'm personally on the "really like" side) but I think it boils down to your storytelling priorities. If you like Avatar at all you're in it for the visuals, not the plot or forgettable characters. I'd argue that Titanic was just as derived/cheesy but I like not getting pelted with tomatoes. Given TItanic vs. Avatar I'd sliiightly lean towards Avatar. All of the most powerful scenes are communicated visually (Hometree falling, Jake Sully's initiation, the first flight, etc.) and you're drawn into the world/culture rather than the characters. I'm a visual girl so Avatar appealed to me. I appreciate strong characterization and originality but I was content with them being absent in this film. But yeah, no arguments that it's Pocahontas In Space.

I did finally see it last summer when he re-released an extended edition in theaters. The plot was boring, totally done to death, and rather unmemorable.
But oh. My. Stars. The visuals were nothing short of incredible! The beauty of the world they created and brought to life is gobsmackingly amazing. We have a 3D TV now, and my dad is going to buy the 3D Blu-ray player from Amazon that comes with a copy of Avatar in 3D.
I haven't watched it again without the 3D and don't really want to. I'm afraid the visuals would lose some of their beauty in 2D. The forest at night is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Oh yes. I love how they used a lot of undersea reference to get an otherworldly and yet still natural quality to the world.
