I was totally out of the Mermaid loop when 3 came out and have never had the chance to really discuss it with anyone.
I really enjoyed it. Nowhere near as good as the first, of course, but a very enjoyable sequel. Disney seems to do a really good job with the third movie in a series. I really like Aladdin 3 too.
I was *very* glad to see that they weren't recycling the same "take over the known universe" plot with yet another Ursula wannabe. I thought Sally Field was a great choice!
Also loved getting to see Athena and Triton, and see a bit more of him come through. I love the statue of them in the garden that's at the end of the movie.
Enjoyed the songs too. I need to watch it again once I get moved. All my Mermaid stuff is in Laurel waiting for me.

I liked it a lot once I got over my crushing disappointment that there was no Eric cameo.
I enjoyed Sally Fields as Marina and loved her interactions with Benjamin.
I LOVED the sisters finally getting personalities, though I was surprised by the Attina/Aquatta age switch.
My favorite parts were the prologue sequence, "I Remember", the girls at the club, and Ariel finding the music box. So sweet.

People are scaring me about this movie. I haven't seen it yet, but people were saying how much it's different the other movies, and there is corny stuff in there. Is that true?

Hmm. I guess you could say it's more low-key than the other movies. There is some corny stuff, but it's mostly short things that are over with quickly.
I like it. I might even like it better than 2, honestly. I say watch and see for yourself.

I thought TLM II was pretty good, though TLM III looks better animated. Well, I guess I will have to see.

The animation in TLM 3 is good enough that it left no doubt in my mind it was a Disney movie. I was very pleasantly surprised with the excellent quality. Better than most episodes of the series, and that was very good non-feature animation for Disney.
There are a couple of places that are a little corny. That's the nature of things like that though. It's worth a try. It's one that I will watch again and recommend to people.

TLM3 came out right before my troop led a Junior Girl Scout sleepover, so I used that as an excuse to buy the movie for myself. We made them all hot cocoa and we watched it the first evening--everyone enjoyed it, though we all agreed on the major problems.
I think TLM3 had a much less TLM feel than TLM2 did, especially in terms of the music. It parallels the original in other ways, though. I liked it a lot better than TLM2.
Beginning = Amazing, Middle = Bad/Awful, End = Okay/Good, to leave any spoilers out. And that's only my opinion.
I think it's safe to assume that you'll be horrified with Flounder, Dan. You'll score some pretty hefty "WTF" moments.
You guys all like Marina? I hated her! I can't say she was worse than Morgana, but my ears bleed when she sings and Ben is the only thing that redeems her. I was reminded more of ungrateful forty-somethings than any kind of villain. She does have good choice in minions, though!

I actually adored this film. To the point where it's become one of those I can watch over and over again in one sitting. "I Remember" is now one of my absolute favorite songs ever, and since I already adored the mersisters from the get-go...well..I KNEW I was going to love this. Of course, I was upset with the extreme personality changes of the sisters from the original tv series, but...they're all still totally awesome. (And I prefer their voices here, rather than the ones from the series.)
My friend Bo and I have come to the conclusion that the lagoon in the beginning of the film was the Mermaid Lagoon from Peter Pan, and Captain Hook did Athena in. *nods*
I did have issue with Flounder not being a guppy, I do agree with that. Cause thats just weird. And then Ariel's meeting him was off-canon too, according to the tv series. I guess you just have to pick the canon you prefer, in this case, like with many other Disney films...since we don't seem to like to research over at Disney. *sigh* But all in all, I DID enjoy the film.

I got that vibe too, Mandy. It's definitely Mermaid Lagoon!

I loved it. "I Remember" was beautiful, and Athena's voice is great. It's nice to see where Ariel got her voice from. This was the best Disney sequel I've ever seen. The animation was excellent, the music was good, and the characters were interesting. I had hoped they would have talked about how Ursula became the Sea Witch. I'm glad that showed why Triton hates humans so much. I didn't like how they changed how Ariel and Flounder met. Flounder was cute though. And I love Benjamin! <333
Why oh why did they have to put this movie in the vault?

I liked it too. It is not as good as TLM but it is a huge improvement from the TLM 2. It was awesome to see Ariel having her old personality back (I couldn't stand her in TLM 2). The beginning part was my favorite because that was when you first see Ariel's mother. Now we know where Ariel got her voice from! ^_^ NOw I know why Triton hates humans; because the pirates killed Athena. (I wonder if that prologue should have been in the first movie before the Fathoms below scene...) The sisters were awesome but I wish they were clear about who is the eldest: Attina or Aquata? Flounder was cute but I don't like how they changed his personality. I don't understand why is it that he is smooth and cool in the TLM 3 whereas in the TLM, Flounder was timid and cowardly.
